UC Applications: A Quick Guide for U.S. and International Students

Whether you're a U.S. citizen or an international student, applying to the University of California system means following the UC admission requirements carefully. This guide outlines key deadlines, application fees, and campus-specific details to help you stay on track. From Fall and Spring filing periods to understanding the semester vs. quarter system, everything you need to know is right here.

Applying to the UCs: Key Dates & Info

Students applying to the University of California system should note the following application filing periods:

  • Fall quarter/semester: October 1 – November 30 (extended to December 2 for Fall 2025)

  • Winter quarter/Spring semester: July 1 – 31

  • Spring quarter: October 1 – 31

UC Berkeley and UC Merced follow a semester calendar, while other campuses use the quarter system. Not all campuses accept applications for winter or spring — check available majors before applying.

Application fees are $95 per campus, though international students enrolled in U.S. schools may qualify for a reduced $80 fee.

The University of California offers a diverse range of opportunities for both international and U.S. students, whether you're applying as a freshman or a transfer. Each of the 10 UC campuses,  including Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, UCLA, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz, has its own strengths, programs, and admissions pathways tailored to different student needs.
